چکیده

Using simulation-based inference (SBI), such as randomization tests, the primary vehicle for introducing students to logic and scope of statistical has been advocated with potential improving student understanding investigative process a whole. Moving beyond individual class activity, entirely revised introductory statistics curricula centering on these ideas have developed tested. Preliminary assessment data largely positive. In this paper, we discuss three years cross-institutional tertiary-level from United States comparing SBI-focused non-SBI (86 distinct institutions). We examined several pre/post measures conceptual in algebra-based course using multi-level modelling incorporate student-level, instructor-level, institutional-level covariates. found that pre-course characteristics (e.g., prior knowledge) were strongest predictors learning, but also textbook choice can still meaningful impact key concepts. particular, was “modifiable” predictor outcomes those examined, texts yielding largest changes learning outcomes. Further research is needed elucidate particular aspects SBI contribute observed gains.

There has been a paradigm shift in the teaching strategies fromdidactic or teacher-centered to more vibrant student centeredapproaches. For the last five decades, small group teaching(SGT) has been a hallmark of this reorientation of educationalstrategies especially in medical schools, which use problem-basedlearning as a core educational tool. The key strength of ...

Student directed learning in medical neuroscience curricula

Student-directed learning (SDL) holds the promise of endowing medical students with the skills to tackle the growing body of information in medicine and facilitate its integration to solve clinical problems. The concept of SDL is not new, it grew out of a more commonly used and closely related concept: self-directed learning. Barrows characterizes SDL as the development of effective self-direct...
